Learning the language and a Sunday walk

It’s interesting the direct parallel to a year ago, that this slice of time holds. A year ago, myself learning Greek, this year, my lodger English. I spent some time Saturday going through some English and it’s when you do this, you realise how confusing it can be! I took some ideas from the Michel Thomas Greek course, at the beginning anyway. “I want a sandwich” ( or coffee) although the Greek course did not introduce the Greek word for coffee as it’s masculine until much later on. But no worries like that for English. I wrote the words down in my best block capitals, on paper, we did three sheets, including “do you want”  “ I have” and so on. The complications came when I taught him “can of beer” then later “can I have a coffee”. He laughed having seen the word can being used in two situations! Of course there are plenty of examples like this in the English language! I just need to prompt him to use the words when I know he has been introduced to them. My Skull and Crossbones chum dropped by and handed over the last shorts to be zipped up, so I now have two smart pairs with a zip, and three with Velcro.

In the evening, I walked to the top of the road, for dinner as I mentioned before. I had a lovely time, we had steak, cooked to perfection, with a tasty home made sauce too. Their dog had a little piece of steak too. She was very pleased to see me, tried to mug me for a walk, as she expects to have a walk when she sees me, but could not understand we did not go out for one!

Afterwards we had an apple strudel made by the children’s Grandma who lives in Wales. We then retired to the tv area and watched England being beaten by South Africa, by one point in the rugby. I walked back home, unfortunately my leg twitched a lot so I had trouble sleeping. In the morning, we had a food delivery and then some more English, my lodger did a walk, as did I, as it was a lovely day. I walked to the railway station and back, and had a coffee and Danish pastry and watched the world go by. There was a three month old Retriever/Cocker Spaniel puppy who was very friendly, I had a chat with his owner. On the way back, I saw several people, and I stopped to speak to most of them.  Just before I got home, I met some friends, by their house, whose dog I used to walk, she was pleased to see me, and it was nice to catch up with them. It was actually quite hot at this point, and I was glad to be in a T-shirt and shorts!

We have a timetable for the roast meal dinner, so we both know when things have to be put on. A final photo of the progress on the Dog and Pizza jigsaw
