Sausages and Chicken Basque.
Last night we had sausages. These were I was told, very similar to Ukrainian sausages. They were surrounded by potatoes and carrots in a metal tray in the oven. Of course it was all accompanied by salad and the bread from our breadmaker. It was all very nice. We ended up watching Poirot sorting out who ( or whome) killed the gangster on the Orient express. My lodger managed to follow what was going on, but it’s more complicated than watching a cooking competition. We do have a few more GBBO to watch. I cooked a Chicken Basque today and I gave the kitchen and the bathroom a quick clean, prior to going into the village. Talking of which, it was the Guy Fawkes bonfire last night, and as I said to my lodger, it was throwing it down. No fireworks in Ukraine he told me. I mentioned that I read a very suspect article about the fact that Putin had died, he said there have been several rumours about that before and of course it’s all stage managed, so you don’t really know what going on.
Before dinner, my kind lodger was to trim back the shrub invading the greenhouses, but after a couple of hours, it was clear he was doing something else as well! It was raining also, so I was hoping he wasn’t out in the rain. Eventually the rain stopped and I was invited to take a look. Both greenhouses are wonderfully tidy and clean and the little shed also. Everything was put away neatly. The lodger had yesterday off, but I don’t think he could have done the pond, as they would have got soaked. I think they are both going to be very busy in the next few weeks, so I need to think what to do about that, whether I get someone else in to install the liner.
Before I could go out to the village, I had to wait for the rain to stop. I cleaned the house meanwhile. I had to get one item for the Chicken Basque. On both directions, I met more people who, I knew and did not, and a dog that I did, who was so pleased to see me. On the way someone stopped and asked me if I wanted a lift, and I said I had better not! In the supermarket. I then saw the person again in the shop, and they offered to take my two items home for me, which was kind. I had a pit stop, in the store’s supermarket, with a Danish pastry. I gave some money for Remembrance Day.
I then retraced my steps and walked back home. After a rest, I made the chicken Basque, it’s a nice recipe, we will probably have it with pasta, I made four portions.
