Patient heal thyself

Well last week the nurse asked me if I could do my dressings myself.  I think I might have mentioned that. In any case today was my first day of having to do it. Unfortunately the dressings had not made it to the pharmacy, and it’s taken a few phone calls to sort it out. But after the rain finished, finally about two,  in the afternoon, I walked down and picked some up. Before I did so, I went to the Orangery and had one of their excellent Lemon Drizzle cakes and a coffee. I am getting a regular in there now. Changing the dressings is not so bad. You pull the old ones off, give the leg a good clean with this pink liquid, let it dry off and apply the new dressings. Each has to have at least one cut so it can fit around a pin, then it’s like doing a jigsaw. It’s a bit fiddly at the bottom where there are two metal hoops in close proximity to each other and that makes it a bit fiddly.  But I think it looks pretty neat.

The Cottage pie went down a treat and as we had one of my lodgers excellent salads with it, we froze half of it for next time. I told him it was getting a problem, all those sweets in that box in the cupboard. He said “no problem”, I said it was, and rubbed my stomach! We laughed. It’s really good, we share lots of funny jokes, well they are to us, it’s just silly things, which I think cheers both of us up. We both have challenges, his are bigger than mine, but it keeps us smiling. We have tried all the fruit tea that came in the parcel now, I think the hibiscus is my favourite.

As it was chucking it down, I did the rest of the product matching for the horticultural society, finding the code and prices for the products we sell at the store. It’s quite frustrating how bad the new suppliers web site is. The search function, well it’s more of a lucky dip function really, it’s a bit like playing bridge, often you will see a product listed, that you weren’t interested in, but you may want to remember its details so you can find it later on.

Yesterday I went to visit a lady nearby to us. Some kind person on her road, tries to visit her, but can’t always make it. When I asked for suggestions on what to do, she asked if I could drop by and see her. When this lady was younger and her husband was alive, she went to Italy nearly thirty times, going to different parts. It was really interesting getting to know her, we often only spoke for a short while when we saw each other at the bottom of the garden. My Skull and Crossbones friend, has suggested I buy a kilt and wear that, instead of shorts, I said it would be ok, except if it was windy. She supplied the corks that are on the end of my metal rods now.

The aforementioned friend, popped in the other day with ingredients for milk rice pudding. I made some today, to see what my lodger thought of it. I asked her in, so she could see the goodies they we got from Ukraine. She likes Cherry Brandy so she had a shot of that. I hope she wasn't over the limit after drinking it,, drunk in charge of a mobility scooter. Another lady I know, I met her while walking to the village, and she said we could have a coffee one day. When I went out yesterday I popped my phone number through her door, we are walking together Friday.

So all in all things are going ok, I have a horticultural meeting later in the week and the physiotherapist. The weeks fly by. I don’t want to wish my time away, but I am quite happy how quickly time is passing, month by month heading towards March. Here is the pudding, it was creamy and I added some Vanilla essence, it tasted pretty good. I think we might dollop some jam from Ukraine on the top.
