Trick or treat?

I did my walk into the village quite early, as the nurses arrival time was so. I have seen her a few times now, she met her husband at the local amateur drama group, they are doing Treasure Island as a Panto this year. Pantomime’s are very British, I can’t imagine them catching on any other place in the world! As I walked down into the village, my leg started to hurt a lot, it does that sometimes. I can help it by not letting it take all the weight on it, and I decided to just go to the Cosy Nook, which is not quite in the village centre. As I went through its entrance door, a guy was eating what looked like little dumplings, that my Ukraine friends would recognise. I said I would have them one day. But I gave into temptation and decided I deserved a treat. I got chatting to the guy eating this delicacy, he said it was very good, the lady who runs the shop, said they will have a chicken version in there tomorrow! I struck up a conversation with this chap, he lives in the road next to ours, and he was having a pit stop during a walk. We agreed the Cosy Nook is a nice place, he knows the pirate flag bearing friend of mine, and we got talking about what job that he did. He was involved in IT, in the early sixties when it was starting to get going, with huge machines the sizes of houses. We exchanged names I hope to see him in there again. The Cosy Nook is a real locals place, like an old fashioned pub,  and unlike the coffee chain places, you do talk to others around you!

I walked back home and dropped in to see my neighbours as on the way out, they said they had cakes for us. We had a nice chat, then I took my goodies home with me. As I went out, I saw my neighbours who host the Ukrainian family, they asked was it ok if the children did trick or treat, even though we did not have a pumpkin outside our front door. I said that was fine, I don’t really like T or T, mainly because when we lived in Cambridge some older kids did the T or T, and when we said no, we got fairy liquid squirted through the letterbox. It took ages to clear up. I have started a new jigsaw puzzle, the edges complete.

My lodger said we were having sausages with mushrooms, onion and cream, which sounded nice, these would be the Polish sausages again. I said we will have a sausages in red wine meal one day. I told him I am doing an online order for the weekend so he can ask me to order things. He was interested in our smart meter and heating controls, they are not seen in Ukraine. I told him the smart meter is meant to inform you better on your energy usage. My cold seems to be coming out as a proper cold now, what a strange thing it has been.  It comes and goes all day, you never know how you might feel, one moment to the next.

The mushroom, onion and cream sauce was like a mushroom stroganoff. I got out our mustard pots, for my lodger to try. I did get him to try the Marmite earlier, he wasn’t keen I am afraid. I did warn him to put a thin layer on,  I can’t stand the stuff either. A while later, we heard our door go, it was the English host from opposite, the Ukrainian daughter,  his granddaughter, some other children and adults. I don’t mind the children going about this T or T business with adults, that’s ok. We gave them some treats, they had a fearsome axe, that would have been our punishment had we not paid up!
