Happy Christmas

Christmas Eve had me on a Sticky Toffee Pudding production run, three of them. With the sauce too. You can’t, I have read just multiply the ingredients of a cake by the required  number, you have to either know what you are doing, or make them separately which is what I did. I had made the sausage rolls beforehand, and they got my lodgers seal of approval. As I had no bread in the house, I walked to the Cosy Nook and had lunch there. I was on my own on Christmas Eve, so I watched the GBBO special edition, before going to bed.

On the Christmas morning, I spoke to friends on Sifnos and Serifos. The Dog Palace lady had saved one of Rita’s daughters from a miserable and frankly terrible life. As I was talking to her, two other friends of ours dropped in to see her. It was really nice over there, as it is in the UK today. I opened up two presents I got, a Labrador picture and a hand made cake from Norway, this was the present my friend’s Beagle tried to open when they both visited the other day.

My lodger came down, he told me there were two presents under the tree from him. I got a nice new dressing gown, and a super jigsaw. I wanted to go for a walk, there wasn’t going to be anything open on the 25th, but I resolved to do another thing, that I can do, that is litter picking. I used my garden bucket and one of the picker things and walked into the village, emptying my bucket in the railway station, where they have  recycling and rubbish in separate bags. I continued into the village, having walked past this decoration!

I went back a different way, there wasn’t too much litter to be honest. Later on I went over to my neighbours and stayed there until about nine pm. Gradually their other guests arrived, I knew all bar one of them. We did not eat until later in the afternoon, one of their daughters had bought  with her  what the Americans call a Turducken which was a bird in a bird in a bird, that is Turkey, Duck and Chicken. It was just nice just chatting to everyone and as the darkness closed in, is when we ate. As one of my neighbours daughters said, last time we were together, if it’s wasn’t for the war, we would not have met these lovely people. My Christmas cake decorated by the children was on view,

After the meal, I had to go and rest my leg, it’s gets painful if I sit at a table a long time. I sat with a couple of the children and one of my neighbours daughters, most of the adults were playing a Ukrainian card game called Durak it’s was nice to hear them having fun with the game. Maybe today I will try. We all had some STP later on, everyone said it was good, there are two of the puddings left. All too soon, it was time to go back to our house, it’s been a wonderful day, having young children around us makes it a lot more like Christmas. It would churlish not to think about those people around the world, while we enjoyed a peaceful Christmas, who are having anything but one. Hope you all had a good time.
