Trains and buses

It’s been a busy few days, and a few more “first time since” moments which are satisfying. The latest cake is Coffee and Walnut, it’s quite frightening how much butter and sugar goes into each cake! This was a nice cake, I used two new shallow 20cm tins, that I bought, so I did not need to cut the single thicker sponge in half to give me the two bits. I would say the coffee taste isn’t  very strong, so I make it stronger next time. Also I would have liked the walnuts in the cake a bit more visible, and as they went in the general mix, they got cut up small, as all the ingredients were mixed up with a blade in the food processor.

I was given this nice jigsaw of London by a neighbour and I have just started it. It’s very interesting and not too much blue! It reminds me a bit of the photo mosaic ones I used to do.

On our latest food order, I bought some Piccalilli so my lodger can try it out. I think he will like it as he tends to like things like this, but he doesn’t like Branston pickle!

Yesterday was a busy than expected day. An elderly friend of mine is in hospital, having had an emergency operation. Her daughter who lives an hour away, was to visit her and we were to go together. She came to our house first with her food focused Beagle, who is adorable. But her name reminds us she is not to be trusted with food, and even fridges and bins are not safe from her. She usually has a go at both of ours when she comes in. Anyway I had left the Norwegian present on the floor by the Christmas tree and the daughter, while on the phone, warned me the dog was trying to open the present. Not satisfied with this, she then decided to have a go at a few of the jigsaw puzzle pieces, so that needed to be put away. As it was getting late and we thought the hospital car park would be full, we took the train and bus to the hospital. My first train journey since March I reckon. It all worked well.

Fed up with our current internet supplier, I have decided to switch, which will be done tomorrow. This does not include a phone line so my personal alarm will stop working, but I think it’s time has come to be turned off. Above is tonight’s dinner, a chick pea and tomato stew, a really easy one to make. The rain seems to be easing now, so I think I can do my walk soon.
