Walking on air
I made some Rosemary, Parmesan and Sun Dried Tomato biscuits. They are quite nice, not much Rosemary taste, I used it from our garden. My lodger said they had an interesting aftertaste, he is still eating my excuse for a Madeira cake, he says it’s nice with Coca Cola! Maybe he should dunk it in it, to make it less dry! I have a few more items for cake making on order, including a Battenberg and Tray bake tins. I have also ordered food colouring, mixed colours as there is this multi layer cake with different colours. Cut open, it looks very dramatic.
Tuesday it really chucked it down, I did a load of admin things, and when it looked like it was drying out I went into the village. I got my pills and dressings, and the Orangery was closed, so no coffee there. In desperation, I went to Costa. At home I did a few more chores, and made a Kedgeree. I have been doing a few things on the Horticultural web site, I have been fiddling with some code ChatGPT has written for me, so at the bottom of each page, it lets you know when the page was last edited. It’s good sign of how active a website is. The Christmas decorations are down, the chocolates all eaten.
Wednesday is the day for physio visits, I am much happier wandering around without the sticks. Barefoot is still a bit difficult around the house still. Those last few millimetres are going to be hard won I think. My physio is really good at keeping me on my toes, ( pun intended ) the latest set of exercises are aimed at encouraging my leg to take on more responsibility, and not slack off. So I am balancing on a board which sits atop half a large blown up ball and I am meant to use my feet to keep upright and not hold onto the safety bars too much. Once you relax, your feet make tiny inperceptible movements to keep you steady. Next is a Stork impression, standing on one leg, on the bad leg. Again tiny movements and relaxing is key. Another is pretending you are walking a tightrope, with one foot in front of another, not walking, just standing there.
A free guitar was on offer, on the local Free site, normally these things go in seconds, this time not, because of the graffiti the previous owner put on it? As I have no idea when I can go back and retrieve the one I have in the island I was living on, this will do, to relearn what little I learnt, the piano has stalled a bit I am afraid. Nice Tardis eh ? I made another coffee and walnut cake, I used hand beating instead of the food processor and it did not rise as well as last time. It’s all about trying different techniques out. It will be better when I get the Chef going, hopefully soon.
Thursday was the fracture clinic visit day, as my pin sites are infection free, I expected them to increase the time between visits to six weeks from four. The consultant walked in, he was smiling. He asked how I was doing. I enthused about how I could walk, the infection on the pin site has cleared up and the rest of it. I then asked him what the x ray showed. I think we need a ct scan he said. I thought, oh that doesn’t sound good! But he quickly carried on and said the leg looks nearly done. That’s amazing given I was only at fifty percent last time. Has all that walking has really helped? I had a pre operation series of tests and then went for the scan. I will have my operation day confirmed hopefully in the next few days for 24th January. Two days before my birthday. Even if they can’t do it then, it won’t be long afterwards. I need to find out what I am allowed to do afterwards, what I can and cannot do. I imagine there will be a final ray a few weeks afterwards. I can then have that bone density check. I chatted to another couple of patients while I was at the hospital, just more confirmation that despite all of this I am a lucky guy. When I got back to the house, I walked into the village and had a coffee and cake at the Orangery. Never has coffee and cake tasted so good.
