Walking along New Road today with the dog I am sitting for a week reminded me of a day years ago, when I was walking along the same road, with the same dog, while we both got soaking wet. Admittedly the rain then was heavier than the showers today, but we got a bit wet. My lodgers wife and daughter should have landed in the UK now, and be heading to our house. I won’t be there with two weeks of dog sitting ahead of me.
The loan car I have is very new and doesn’t have a handbrake or needs a key inserted to start it, both are buttons now. That took a bit of getting used to. But it’s a nice little car.. When I arrived at the house with the Labrador first thing, she was very pleased to see me, and after her breakfast made it very clear, she wanted a walk please. She always used to have three bits of carrot when I started a walk with her, and she still looks at me when I start, waiting for them. We had to do a lot of pavement walking as the path we were to go on was flooded after all of yesterday’s rain.

I went to the gym for the second time this morning, and having understood a bit better about the time I can stay during each visit, I got through my program. I have a plan, as you can see. Some of these machines have horrendous names, like the Reformer! I decided to aim for three visits a week, to maximise my investment in a three month membership. I picked up some items from the local supermarket and headed back to my charge. We then had a rest while we waited for our second walk, a longer one, with a lunch stop, at the Cosy Nook which was very busy, with a few cyclists in it, as the cafe they would normally go to, is being refurbished. I had the breakfast in a wrap and while waiting chatted to a lady, whose dogs I was going to sit, while she went on a Hot Air Balloon ride, she has only just been on it. But it was nice to see her and her two dogs again. I was trying out my new walking kit, raincoat, walking boot and trousers. All performed well.
Unfortunately at this point the heavens opened. But it did ease enough for us to continue but I cut a few corners off the walk. We went along Brook St, which is an attractive place to walk through with some of the terrace houses painted.
It rained off and on, it wasn’t really that bad. When we got home, I dried us both off and we had a rest. Tonight I will have to leave my charge in her house, as it’s the annual TRHA dinner for Committee and volunteer members at a local pub. Tomorrow another walk or two I guess…
