Meat in a French sandwich

What a difference makes! Last weeks labrador is, as she is getting older, is becoming more cuddly, and now often loves her head being rubbed, especially around her ears. It was very sad to leave her, but she has her family back now. I only managed to leave one item in her house, returned the following day. This week I am near the centre of the village, near the Cosy Nook, I have already been in there for a sneaky breakfast wrap yesterday, before taking my two charges with another French Bulldog and his male parent to the nearby Dinton Pastures for a very wet soggy walk. The house I am in is a lovely old terrace house, which is beautifully decorated and furnished. The owner, a friend of the aforementioned male parent was introduced to me when I was still in my cage. She is a very interesting person to meet, and when she showed  me her house the other day, we talked about many interesting topics including mental health.

The two Frenchies, are very sweet, and they like cuddles a lot. I actually have quite a lot of work for the TRHA website, it will be a miracle if I get it done! But it’s nice being in the centre of the village, a short walk to my three visits to the gym this week. Last night, I was warned the girls might join me in bed, but they did not immediately do so, but in the night, I felt them jumping  onto the bed, the one on the left, snuggled up to me a lot, the other one, sleeping under the duvet cover. They are a joy to look after. On the top floor is a partially feral cat, who I am wary of, there won’t be any cuddles for her! I am repeating this gig, later on this year.

Finally I should mention the  last meal I cooked at the Labradors house, I am writing a cookery corner for the local Horticultural newsletter, which is centred around vegetables and fruit, seasonally available. It’s quite tricky at this time of the year, I found a recipe for lardons and sprouts in a creamy pasta. It is quite nice, I used single cream and possibly more paprika than they used.  Of course the Labrador I was looking after featured in this story:

One of the dogs I used to walk regularly was a Chocolate Labrador. If you know these dogs, you will know they eat anything. This little lady is no exception. On a walk, we used to go past the allotments at Ruscombe, by the church. I happened to be growing Brussel Sprouts there for my neighbour, I think she grew the plants. The Labrador went up to a plant and calmly bit one sprout off and ate it. Then she had another, and another..I decided one too many sprouts might challenge her cement mixer stomach and I led her away from them!
