Mixed up

Back at the house, things are going to be changing soon. My lodger’s wife and daughter are here with him, and this will continue when they move into a flat mid March. My kind friend who has the skull and crossbones flag has already given them some items,  and I have suggested I put a post on the local Facebook group asking if anyone has and unwanted items. I am also keeping an eye on the Facebook free site for the local area too for items that might be useful for them. I made another lemon meringue pie, everyone liked it and I gave some to a friend who’s having a hard time of things, and her husband who is also poorly. If that wasn’t enough, there much loved dog is also not well either.

I have been spending a lot of time working on the local website. It won’t look much different on the outside, but underneath, the menu bar which is defined in every file, will be in just one file that is referenced by the others. This will make maintenance a breeze.  The clever bit, cooked up by ChatGPT works out if the current page is in the menu, and if so it won’t appear in the menu, for obvious reasons. There are a few other tidying things I am doing too. It’s been fun. I have also been trying Phrazzle which is different from Wordle and a bit more interesting. The mixer came back, I was making the double orange cake and I have to say the mixer was making a meal of mixing everything together. Then a noise and a screw popped out, handily caught by my lodger and everything stopped. I will give the bowl and beaters to a friend, the rest of it is going to the scrap heap. I suspect it had a very hard previous life.

I then spent the rest of the morning finishing off the double orange cake, it rose well but collapsed, I think it was over beaten. It tastes ok and the orange icing is very nice. I also made a fish pie, for all four of us. I gave it a showering of cheese before it went in the oven. Here is the flat double orange cake

In the afternoon, I did a walk with my litter picker and a rubbish bag. I managed to fill it up on a tour of the village. The nice thing was several people talked to me and thanked me for what I was doing. That makes one’s day! The fish pie went down very well.
