Lasagne for breakfast?

I made a lasagne two nights ago, and here is a tip for you. If you use dry lasagne sheets, sometimes, they don’t get cooked after cooking in the oven. So my tip is make it twenty four hours before want it and pop it in the fridge. The lasagne sheet softens and I am sure the meat sauce develops its flavour too,  the chewy lasagne sheet problem  is solved.  After having two helpings, my lodgers wife, asked if some of the left overs could not be put in the freezer, so she and her husband could have some for breakfast!

I donated the bowl and mixing implements from my broken mixer to my neighbours daughter, she makes cakes as a business. We got a glorious ginger cake in return. My cakes are generally nice, but this is amazing. The texture and taste is awesome! She gave me the recipe. This afternoon we are all celebrating with the Ukrainian family opposite with a BBQ, it’s the Ukrainian’s husbands birthday. One of my neighbours has said she might have some items for my lodgers family and we will be going over hers to have a look soon. The family have a list that I have put on a couple of Twyford Facebook groups today. The responses have been staggering. It’s true British people are very generous. Meanwhile at lunchtime at the Cosy Nook my skull and crossbones friend has upcycled this t shirt, the old logo was tired and flaking off, and with her fabric cutter, she cut out a new design, and glued it on the shirt using the glue on the wafer thin material. She reminded me to wash it inside out. How kind is that.

A nice bit of social media activity last night. My neighbour thought she had left her glasses in a local Youth centre earlier in the week. The question is, how to get in contact with the caretaker or whoever? I put a post on the local Facebook group, I got two replies, one with the contact number, an answerphone number unfortunately and someone else, who said they could pop in and have a look for us. This was duly  done and the glasses returned to my neighbour. In the afternoon I then went over the road with my family for a Ukrainian meal celebrating the husbands birthday. There was loads of food, a lot I now recognise.

The food was amazing and it was followed by two crumbles made by the UK hosts wife. Lots of alcohol was consumed, but over a long period. At one point the Ukrainian girls put on a YouTube video of a Ukrainian song, I did not know it, they sang along to it. Very memorable. Before I was allowed to,leave, I was told to have “one for the horse”, which is the Ukrainian version of “one for the road”. My contribution was some cheese straws, it was a test of the recipe I found, they are something else I plan to enter into the Spring show. They were light, taste and melted  in your mouth. Result. It’s been a busy but a super day. I am blest to live here, with these kind people around me.
