Mixing more than cakes.
It’s been an amazingly busy few days. After posting the request for items for the Ukrainian family, my Facebook was almost on fire with responses from kind people. Large items like a nearly new tumble dryer, and all sorts of other things to turn an empty property into their first home in the UK. One lady brought bedding for their daughter, her teenage daughter said, every girl should have a fluffy pillow to cuddle up to, so she gave one to the daughter. She also gifted a pretty mirror glass trinket box, for jewellery. Amazing. Two people had nothing to give, so gave us money. So I bought an iron and a kettle, as we had not been given them. There was money left over, the family will buy some new pans. I have been making cakes of course, the carrot cake, the second example was much better than the first. It’s one of my favourites.
It’s looking like the family will get the keys on the 18th March, and will move in to the new place in that week. The mother had written a nice piece that she asked me to put on Facebook to thank everyone.
Paul, I would like you to pass on our thanks to all the people who helped us with the list.
"Dear residents of Twyford! Our family sincerely thanks everyone who participated in collecting things for our move to a new rented apartment. You are all incredibly generous, caring, kind people! Your care will help us start a new life. We will never forget it."
I made a ginger cake today, it’s a new recipe, the icing has the syrup from the stem ginger, mixed with icing sugar for an extra ginger taste.
I said to my lodger, that I wanted to cement the stones around the pond myself. I think he wanted to do them, but for me, I built the pond, I was very grateful that he repaired the liner and first layer of stones, but I wanted to finish the job off, to prove I was truly back to normal again. The physio doesn’t want to see me for a month, just wants me to do the exercises at home and at the gym. All the memories of the dark times, struggling to walk, the two UTI’s, are becoming distant memories. All the evidence of my time with the cage on are long gone gone, the appliances to help me live at home and so on. My walking is really good now, especially at home barefoot, which was always the hardest to do. I am very grateful for my recovery.
