Rhubarb two ways
As rhubarb is in season I decided to write my next contribution for the TRHA newsletter on cooking with rhubarb. I found a rhubarb and ginger loaf recipe, which wasn’t bad, but the Norwegian one with almonds on the top is sublime.
The wife in my lodging family is on a fasting, relating to Easter, like they do in Greece but no dairy produce is allowed. So no cakes for her unfortunately! I am making a lentil bolognaise tomorrow, but for yesterday and today, she is doing her own food thing. It’s been a lovely day here, it’s felt really hot. After the gym, I went and did some work on the TRHA garden, I did some Sunday while the store was open and I finished off the main garden bit today.
It will need some more tlc when things really start to grow. On previous years when I have been around on the other side of the fence, is a grass verge with a thin soil border. We have sown sunflower seeds there and they did really well. Only a couple got vandalised. So we will do that again this year. In the afternoon we met a Ukrainian lady who works at our local supermarket, my skull and crossbones friend told me about her and myself, the wife and daughter met her. She has been here many years and has lots of contacts. On the walk down, I was using the sandals that I was wearing when I broke my leg, and I was walking pretty well.
My main problem is the stiffness in the morning and it can ache a bit at night. But I am mobile, be grateful for that! I shuttled one of my friends to hospital for her pacemaker installation yesterday, which has worked out well. Tomorrow I am taking another friend to the Cosy Nook for lunch, then we are meeting the local council liaison officer to finalise some details about the flat the family are getting the keys for a week today.
