It fell off the back of a lorry guv!

This last week has been all about dog sitting, two French bulldogs who live near the Cosy Nook. So there has been even more visits there during my stay. The feral cat who lives in the house too, was more friendly towards me, but I kept my guard.  The interesting story will come later, but the two dogs, are definitely more comfortable with me, one of them showing signs of dominance, in wanting me to be just for her, by laying on my lap in such a way, so the other dog, could not get too close. Rita on Serifos used to do this, with greater effect, because she was a Labrador sized dog. The owner was delayed on her return journey, I always wait for them to get back before I depart, so there is a proper hand over. As she was late, I decided to have a take away of fish and chips while I was waiting for her. As always when looking after this pair, I get to share my bed with them. This time both were closer to me in the bed. Which meant it was even more difficult to get room to fit in it, with my ever present two hot water bottles.

At home, we are getting the hall and landing decorated, it needed doing, it was looking very tatty. As I was not in the house, it made it easier for the decorator. I have been given the opportunity to look after the most beautiful Black Labrador I know, who now lives in Oxfordshire and her new sidekick a German Shepherd. It’s going to impinge on my autumn trip to Greece, so I need to think about that.

I have been planning a new storage system for the horticultural store, for our bird and grass seed, in new rectangular containers that will fit under a shelf. Unfortunately no one nearby has these items in stock, so we will probably have to buy one and see if it’s suitable. The title story about the lorry, is a bit annoying and unnecessary really. We were expecting a delivery from a supplier we use, the company uses a courier to send the items to us. It’s usually on a pallet. When the driver opened up the lorry, the contents, although wrapped up in that black plastic cling film stuff had shifted about twenty centimetres off the pallet. This made navigating the pallet onto tail lift awkward. I said if he put the pallet on the tail lift and lowered the lift, I could unload it, item by item,  he would just have to wait until I did that. But it was the end of his day, he wanted to head home. So he huffed and puffed and inevitably the pallet slipped off the tail lift and plunged terra firma bound, onto the road.

All the light stuff was on the top of load so got crushed by the heavy stuff. I ended up doing what I offered to do, except some items had been damaged and I am going to have to return later on today, take photos and report to the company. We will be given a refund on the damaged goods, and be able to salvage something from the damaged items.
