Who has been eating my turkey mince?
For the bank holiday weekend, plenty going on. New friends, new directions. For the Saturday I was looking after my friends French Bulldog, after a trip to the Gym. They were going into London, back late in the evening. With my charge we did a walk around the village, but he was getting hot and despite the water I carried for him and his bowl, we cut the walk short. Back at his home, it was time for his breakfast, it’s now after eleven by the way! He has this raw meat, and some cooked turkey mince. I cooked the mince, let it cool and fed him. Half of the mince I cooked was for his dinner. I left it in the small frying pan on the cooker. I went next door to the Cosy Nook for my lunch, and after enjoying that and meeting a friend, I went back to see my charge and see how he was getting on. I went into the kitchen and, the frying pan is empty.
Now this dog is athletic, but there is no way he could have got to this ! It did not take me long to realise that one or both of his feline companions who live upstairs probably came down and helped themselves to the dogs dinner! Cheeky ! I then popped out for a second visit to the Cosy Nook to meet a new friend, and have a nice long chat ( something I never did years ago) . I then returned to my charge and gave him another walk, it was much cooler, but I took the bottle and bowl. When we got back, I had my dinner and I watched a bit of tv until it was time to leave him, he was fast asleep by now.
The following day, it was a beautiful clear blue sky, I was on duty to the allotment shop, half way through trading, I went back home and picked my allotment partner neighbour and took her to the store, she wanted to buy a piece of netting for her trugg, that she grows things in. After making her purchase, she gave me the French climbing bean plants for the allotment, her husband would be so impressed, her sprout and tomato plants are doing well, she has some flowers on the go too. At the allotment, having put up the canes before, it did not take long to put the plants in, including a courgette I bought from the TRHA store last week. I did some weeding with a rake, to eliminate all the small seedlings that have germinated in the newly tilled soil.
While up there, I met the lady who has taken on my plot when I went to Greece, she was there with her mother. I told her she is doing a great job running the plot, which she is, it’s different to how I ran it, but it’s ok. After lunch I decided to deliver my TRHA monthly newsletters, the last of which is conveniently close to the Cosy Nook! I ordered a Tropical Trip smoothie, and was facebook messaging to my new friend, as I had bought them a courgette plant for them from the store today. My friend said “wait there I am coming down”. So when she arrived we had another nice chat, and she asked if I wanted to come along and look at some of the open houses supporting the Henley Arts trail I said yes, something new to try. We followed the website to several houses, in our village, where artists were displaying their work. The first place had jewellery, art and ceramics. The ceramics interested me most, as the lady was describing a wacky firing process where the glaze ends up ( as long as the piece survives!) with varying appearances including crazing and unusual colourings. My friend knew all about this stuff, unlike me. We visited two other houses, the last being the most spectacular with work from the ex landlady of the nearby pub. Her creativity knows no bounds. There were clothes, and all sorts of different creations, very difficult to describe, but all fascinating to look at. I wish I had taken a photo or two! Thankfully she has a web page. We then ambled back to our house and I gave my friend her courgette plant. Her own have unfortunately been attacked by slugs and are not doing well.
