A chance meeting with the David Bowie cat

I decided to do a little bit for the island on the Saturday. I drove up to Hora and walked down on the road picking up litter as I went. Unfortunately the bins to empty the bag I was putting the rubbish in,  were too far apart and the bag was falling apart  as well. But I managed to remove most of it. As I reached the flat bit of the road approaching Livadi, the fields around were covered in rubbish, a lot of it from the distribution company opposite. It took me weeks to clear those fields, I would do it differently now, buying bags and filling them and taking them to the nearest rubbish skip. I don’t have time to clear them now, so sadly the rubbish will remain and multiply I imagine. I met the delivery rider for Grans on route and spoke to him and the guy who runs the donkeys in Hora as Lorries can’t reach most of the houses. I had a nice lunch and met too other people I know, who had just got off the ferry. I then walked up the donkey track to retrieve the car, which wasn’t too bad although I was very hot when I got to the top.

There are more electric cars on the island including at least two examples of these little vehicles. The problem is unlike the UK where a lot of electricity is being generated by renewables or at worse gas, it’s generated here by burning oil or diesel, not sure which but it’s only marginally better than coal. In the evening we went to Psili Amos to a taverna where we had a lovely evening meal with two new people who are buying a house on the island.

I have been to the Dog Palace again and this time I walked the dogs in two walks of similar lengths. I think the total was about ten km. I picked a path that was fairly level and a decent surface. It all went quite well. Freya is getting used to me now and she loves a cuddle. I made a carrot cake at the Dog Palace owners house, we had to be creative with the ingredients and unfortunately her oven is more powerful than I thought, so the top of the cake got burnt. I scraped off the black bits like you do with toast. The lady is adamant the cake will taste good. We will know soon. She doesn’t eat cream cheese so it won’t have its usual topping, although I am going to make some on the side so those who want icing can dollop their own on! This photo before the scraping exercise.
