Christmas day

Sometimes when you are travelling you bump into objects that surprise and flatter our opinion of our home country wherever that is. So in the KEP in the entrance hall was a printing press, made in Finsbury London. It’s meant to be refurbished soon, so maybe it can be used again. I hope they keep the green colour.

On Christmas Day, I walked to my friends house and we had crumpets for breakfast, the ones I had brought over several days ago. But as I left my place, a voice called my name, it was the partner of the guy who was helping my friends make the Christmas lunch. She had the stuffing she wanted me to carry to my friends house. He is one of those people who can probably turn his hand to anything, he has done so much. Hand is the non plural which is correct in this case and not one of my numerous typos. Sadly he lost one of his hands to a terrible accident many years ago. So the fact he is a single handed chef is even more impressive. I had never tasted anything he had cooked before, but I was soon to be doing so. He had one of my friends juice a load of oranges and dunk the turkey in the juice overnight. He was also making the stuffing and gravy. I can’t remember all the things that went in the stuffing, but by goodness it was good. He and his aforementioned partner and another friend, I know were joining us on the day. Some of the dinner was being cooked in the log burner, the rest in a conventional oven. We had mulled, then fizzy wine, and a nice bottle of red, chosen by our chef. We had the meal, the turkey was perfect and not dry at all.

You can also see a cauliflower cheese, which was also excellent, the Christmas pudding came from a supermarket in the UK, another thing brought over by me. My friends dog, wasn’t left out, he was a bit subdued, I don’t know why. In between the showers, which became heavier as the day went on, we had a look out on the balcony.

In the evening we watched the last two episodes of the new series of the Strike, which we thought was good, but oh so complicated. We finished up with a documentary. By the this time it was clear the rain would not be abating soon, so it was decided I would have a sleep over in the little house, on a sofa cushion, relocated on the floor. I made myself comfortable and it wasn’t long before the dog lay down by me, wanting tummy rubs. It was very nice and relaxing,, after a while he wandered off and went somewhere else, he is always on the move overnight apparently. I slept fairly well, in the morning, more cuddles for the dog, and then I got up and walked, back to my apartment. Today it looks like more rain and heavy again later on. Bring it on, the island needs it. Thanks to everyone.
