It took a week to recover from that sickness bug. I felt exhausted, had real trouble eating, even having a can of soup, and it really dragged me down. My neighbours and friends were kind, and bit by bit I recovered. I forced myself to clean the house, for obvious reasons, and by the time of the TRHA AGM I was on my way back, with just a perpetual belching and flatulence being my final symptoms! I did have the pleasure of looking after the chocolate lab for an afternoon and evening, I left her about ten PM. A friend came round and saw me at her house for a chat that was nice. She is a lovely dog, owned by a very special family.

I have started to go around and see some of my friends now I am better, a few more to see this week. I made this ginger cake with grated stem ginger, it’s really light and fluffy and tasty too. I gave some to one neighbour when I went to see them, as I walked away from their house, another neighbour was putting their recycle stuff out, and they had most of what was left, she has two teenage sons to feed, it went down well apparently!
One thing I bought after I got back from Greece is this nifty grater with two sized grating holes. It sits on the counter with its non slip surface, and it’s much easier to use than our old fashioned one. The reason I bought it is my friends in Greece have one.
I have been to the TRHA store opening yesterday, I did a little work on the store garden. It wasn’t too busy, but it will get busier as time goes on. Finally I have resumed my work on the new allotment plot, I took away the rubbish on two tip runs, there was a field mouse I disturbed that was in one of the one ton builders bags! I have started forking out the weeds, bindweed and nettle roots. I have also moved some of the raspberry canes, these are the less favoured summer ones. I will get some autumn ones if I can. Luckily people who live near the plot are away for a month and I can use their two brown bins to toss the roots into as well as ours. Here are two photos, you can see where I have been working. The bindweed will come back, it’s just a matter of being persistent with it. I should be ready for the spring. I do an hour each day, I have put the flags back, they are muddy but they can be cleaned up when it dries out.
