Job done

I love sticky toffee pudding, and I fancied the idea of a date cake as an alternative without the hassle of the sauce. So I made a new cake for me, which had dates and walnuts in it. It’s made in a loaf tin, I find these cakes when they rise above the edge of the tin can get a bit over cooked as they have no protection from the heat from the oven. Most of the round cakes I make don’t rise above the edge of the tin you see. Anyway it came out ok, I had a slice, it felt a bit over baked. I put it in the cake tin, and the following morning it had softened and did not have that over baked as it had done, so it was ok after all.

St Marys church in the centre of the village has a lovely churchyard behind it. At this time of the year it’s a swathe of snowdrops. Snowdrops don’t like their soil disturbed so churchyards are perfect for them for obvious reasons! I put this photo on Facebook, on the local village group and loads of people liked the post and said they would go and look. A friend of mine, in her ninety’s was taken by another friend to see the churchyard, where her husband is buried. She also went to the Cosy Nook.

This lovely Cocker, is very beautiful and adores me. When we walk she stops every few minutes jumps up and wants a hug. I have probably mentioned her before. I often borrow her, take her for a walk then go and visit my friend who had one a bit like this one. My friend loves her, reminds her of her own and this dog sits in the sofa and gets petted by my friend. Apologies if I have told this story before.

Finally the main work on the new plot is over. It’s all forked over, as many weeds removed as possible. A lot of the raised beds are rotted, I have patched them up as best I can, I might replace some of the wood next year. There are a few jobs to do, small things like repair tears in the netting, sort the edging of the netting where it meets the ground. I have got some raspberry canes, called Autumn Bliss which are autumn fruiting ones to plant. Plus loads of seeds. My ninety year old neighbour whose husband had a plot when he was alive will grow some of these seeds in his greenhouse.
