Back from the dead.

When we built our ponds, we often had tadpoles in the Spring, we even had Toad spawn, just once I think. But now we don’t. But our neighbours, still have it appear every year and they donated some tadpoles for our back pond.

Another thing back from the dead is our white Wysteria. We used to have one gracing our pergola, but it sadly died. What is interesting is that the white was grafted onto purple root stock. A couple of years later a sucker appeared and now it’s flowering. It’s purple  of course. Unfortunately the bees that used to be all over the Wysteria are not to be seen. But they do appear when the blackberry flowers, later this year.

The allotment is doing well, the Pak Choi is really coming along nicely. The bindweed is also, so needs constant removal. The roots are not always so easy to remove, but hopefully in time, it will succumb to my efforts. There is small fruit appearing on a lot of the trees, giving me hope I will have fruit in the autumn.

We used to have an Acer in the back garden. But sadly over a period of year, branches, died off, leaving a lopsided tree, so I put it out of its misery before it finally gave up the ghost. We replaced it with a Laburnum which is flowing well  and it seems settled into its spot.

While walking a friend’s Dachshunds several young adults appeared on the King George’s field. I asked one of them, she said what I thought was “VE Day”. Some red and blue smoke was let off, it turned out it was the last term day ( Leavers days) for the ones who will leave after their exams finish in the summer.

I did a nice walk with my friend along the Thames by Sonning. The lock used to do afternoon teas, but sadly they don’t now. But in the village there is a tea room, called the Village Hamper which is also a shop.

And finally, a Coffee and Walnut cake. This is a class I will enter in the Summer show. This is my first attempt, I will do at least two more before the date of the show.
