After rain comes good weather
One of my friends here, says this is the longest sustained wet and windy weather he has known. I can believe it. I have been here over a week and it’s rained pretty much every day. But better weather is on its way. Here is a photo of the mountain both myself and friends look out over from our respective houses, when blue skies prevailed for a brief moment.
I did some cooking the other day and made a cottage pie ( with two types of mince ) with a potato and leek topping. Of course it was finished off in the log burner. There was enough left over to go into the freezer for one person. Tonight I am doing a spaghetti bolognaise using a recipe from my friends who have the chocolate Labrador in the UK. I have finally finished the online entry form, after a frustrating few days, but we got there in the end, it’s up to a couple of committee members to pass judgement on it. Last night I spent another night in my friends house as it was just too wet and windy to walk home. Today on my way back I had to take a longer diversion to my apartment as the usual road was too flooded. This gave me the opportunity to look closer to the little beach I mentioned before.
My friends dog, is enjoying my company as well, he likes nothing better than just getting tummy rubs when he is next to you. If you stop he looks at you as if to say, why did you stop?
We did a walk on our own, the so called loop walk that starts behind the beach where there is agricultural land. There is a loop that ends up going back to the beach, or you can return by the road. When we started the walk I had just bought a jambontiropita, and the dog, loves these pies. As we went on, he was looking up asking for some. When I got to the crusty bit he showed no interest! Only the best bits for him!
Just after we started on the walk proper, there was a farmyard all caged in. My friends dog, became alert and of course there was a huge Alsatian in the cage. Both parties did a bark and growl off, luckily separated by the cage. Thankfully we got past that and carried on. There isn’t much to see in the fields, I remember years ago seeing some kind of cereal growing but maybe that was in the Spring. They had to dig out a bit of the beach the other day to slow water to drain into the sea from the road that runs along the back of the beach. We carried on and found the place where the second path joins the first and you make your way back to the beach. All was going well until the path ahead was flooded. It had canes growing either side, but there looked like a sandy area by the canes we could walk along avoiding the water. But as soon as we stood on it, it was like quick sand and both of us sunk several inches into it. We carried on, it seemed the best thing to do. I found a working hose nearby and hosed down our feet so we would not take a load of sand into my friends house. My boots spent the evening drying off by the log burner.
