My walk from my friends house to my apartment is a bit odd. It doesn’t take too long and it’s good exercise as it’s a steep slope to climb up. Below a photo taken outside my friends house looking down to where the entrance of my place is. It’s painfully close but that’s the way these houses are built on the ground. It’s on a slope, very steep, and there isn’t any long term plan of building, if there is a patch of land a house might be put up, and then somehow access is provided. The Cyclades are known for their sugar cube houses, the newer ones are not really cubes, they are more like two story buildings you find elsewhere. My friends house is single story cube, perfectly designed for two people and a dog. Of course you would like more space, but then you have to heat it in the winter and cool it in the summer.

After we got back from Faros the other day , it was decided we would go to Cameron on my last night here in this trip. I sail to Serifos Sunday lunchtime. I also decided to make them a lemon drizzle cake. I was to use Sifnos lemons, they are really good. My friends have this amazing zester that is brilliant, forget those silly hand help ones you might have, this one rocks and makes the job really easy. They also have an electric juicer, which had the juice out in seconds. In no time the cake was in the oven, and afterwards its lemon drizzle applied. Like me my friends are going to give a few slices away to their friends.
Before I made the cake, one of my friends made a traditional meal called
giouvetsi with orzo-pasta/. The pasta is very small, it looks like rice. I remember buying and cooking it and being puzzled. But it’s very nice and my friends dog had some too and had a bit more for his lunch. It was cooked on the stove, then in the evening, it was put in the log burner with the pasta mixed in to cook. A real winter warmer.
Last night we had a frittata cooked in the log burner again which was really tasty. As it was quite late after we had done so, we ended up playing a sort of game, picking in turns tunes off YouTube. A lot of favourites, but a few interesting choices surfaced too.
